Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Do you do all types of repairs on ceramics, is there any restoration you will not take on?

A.

Yes, I repair/restore all items of porcelain and pottery, antique and modern, as well as paper mache. To date I have not refused any job I have been asked to do.

Q.

Should I attempt a temporary repair myself?

A.

No, this may cause extra work (and cost) when you have the piece professionally restored. Wrap all the broken pieces carefully to present to the restorer as they will probably all be used in the restoration. Don't throw anything away!

Q.

Can you restore an item that is riveted?

A.

Yes, I've done many of them.

Q.

How much will it cost?

A.

That depends on the amount of time taken. I charge £16.00 per hour (no VAT) which I believe is an extremely reasonable rate for the high quality service I provide. Estimates are given on the spot for all items brought to me. Alternatively, photographs showing the extent of the damage may be posted or e-mailed for a quick response.

Q.

How long will it take?

A.

I try to complete all work in a very maximum of six weeks depending on the level of work I have in stock at the time. I will, however, try to accommodate any requests for items to be completed quickly, for example, where a dealer has a client ready to buy the piece or when the item is a gift for a birthday, anniversary, etc...

Q.

Can a badly repaired piece be redone?

A.

Yes, I've done many of them over the years.

Q.

What if there are bits missing?

A.

Don't worry, I can make and install missing pieces in the restoration process.

Q.

Can plates be used after repair?

A.

Regretfully no. Finished items will appear aesthetically pleasing but can be used for decorative purposes only as the materials used in the restoration process cannot be fired at the same high temperature when the item was made.

Q.

Do you accept pieces for restoration through the post?

A.

Yes, with pleasure, but must be at the sender's risk. Be sure to pack carefully. I always advise sending by special delivery.

Q.

Is there any problem with shipping?

A.

No, no problem at all. I ship to anywhere in the world.
